Can I smoke in the building?
No. The court buildings are smoke free.
What happens if I have an emergency?
Tell court staff immediately.
What happens if I do not report to Court?
If you have not been deferred or excused from jury service, you can be fined up to $1000 for not attending.
What if I know the accused or a witness?
At the start of the trial the names of the accused and witnesses will be read in court. If you know, or are connected with, the accused or a witness you should tell court staff immediately.
What study should I do to prepare for jury service?
None.
What if I am late?
If you are running late, please contact the court as soon as possible. It is very important that you allow plenty of time for your journey as many people are involved in the trial and any delays are costly for everyone
Can I find out about which trial I will be on before my jury service?
No - you will not know which trial you will be on until you are actually sworn onto a jury.
What should I wear?
There is no strict dress code but smart casual dress is preferred. You will be sitting down for a long time, so wear clothes you feel comfortable in.
Do I need to know anything about the law?
You do not need to know about the law or legal terms as anything you may need to know will be explained by your trial judge.
Where should I go in the courthouse?
When you arrive each morning please go directly to the jury waiting area, not to the courtroom or any other area in the building.
Who can I talk to if I have concerns about my safety?
We understand you may be worried about your personal safety during the trial. The court will take all necessary precautions to make you feel safe. Speak to court staff if you have any concerns.
