- Background and history
- Every year, thousands of people do jury service. Most jurors find the experience interesting and valuable. Jury service is a great opportunity to learn about the justice system. Jurors make a valuable contribution to their community and the justice system every time they attend court, even if they aren’t chosen for a jury trial.
- How jurors are selected
- If you’re summoned for jury service, you must attend at a particular courthouse. A jury is made up of 12 people. However, more than 12 potential jurors are involved in the selection process.
- Who is eligible?
- Some people cannot serve on a jury. The Juries Act 1981 defines who cannot serve on a jury.
- Juror survey
- Every 12 months, the courts ask a sample of jurors for feedback. The aim is to find out about and to improve jurors’ experience at court.
