Jury Service
This page introduces jury service and describes some resources for people summoned for jury service.
Welcome, Kia ora
Every year thousands of New Zealanders give their time to serve on juries. Jury service is an important civic duty and significant contribution you can make as a member of our community. Jurors contribute to the justice process and make sure the system is fair for us all.
In 2009, over 300,000 people were summoned for jury service. Many of them had never served before. Naturally, they had questions. Some were probably a little worried about what they would have to do. This website provides information and tools that will help you to understand the jurors’ role in the trial process.
