Support Services
Do you require emotional support?
Separating from a partner and making decisions about property or the custody of your children can be a frustrating or stressful time. There are a number of people and organisations who can provide emotional support to you:
- Your primary health care professional or general practitioner (GP)
- Community mental health services through your local district health board (DHB). Contact details for DHBs can be found on the Ministry of Health website or in the green section of your phone book under 'Hospital and other Health Service providers'
- Helplines such as:
- Lifeline (0800 543 354)
- Samaritans (0800 726 666)
- Youthline (0800 376 633)
- the Depression helpline (0800 111 757)
- Healthline (0800 611 116)
- Kidsline (0800 543 754)
- Websites such as the Depression website (www.depression.org.nz) or the Lowdown (www.thelowdown.co.nz) have information about depression and who you can contact for help. The Lowdown is particularly for young people and has text and email support services available.
